I was beginning to think I would never write in the Story section of this site, but last night I finally found the right eyes for Lily after years of searching, and I became inspired to write a scene with Lily and Inara that illustrates what a lonely child Lily was.
Lily breaks my heart. I want to hold her close and tell her she is loved. Today I took a few quick photos of Jasphene sitting in a wreath I made, holding a little wreath I made her.
I'm in the process of editing photos of Jasphene to introduce her as a newly complete doll. I'm absolutely in love with her. She's perfect. She turned out exactly as I had hoped - even more like the vision I had for her than I thought she could be. The BJD gods have blessed me with this lovely character. Soon I'll upload a set of her debut photos, but for now, here's a teaser. Photography by me

I feel like I’ve done hardly anything with poor Echo. I simply must get over my fear of shaping fabric around her boobs and make her a bodice. Oh, to have proper sewing skills! How I wish. Anyway, she almost always lives in her box, and tonight I took her out and admired how special she is. She really is like none of my other dolls in look and feel. I kinda wish she didn’t have the heaving bosom that intimidates me so, but on the other hand, she has such a majestic presence that it kind of works for her in that respect. Happy birthday, Echo, you lovely, ethereal creature of many secrets. Tonight I discovered that the wire stems of paper flowers are magnetized enough to hold a small group of flowers to Prea’s head.
I thought I was going to have to attach the flowers to magnets, but all I had to do was clip the stems at the bottom of each flower and glue the flowers to each other at their sides. Voila! A magnetic flower decoration! The wire remaining in the flowers will hold them to the head. This might be the easiest method ever to make small flower decorations for your dolls’ hair (if they have magnets in their heads, of course). I just added a bunch of photos like these of Prea to the gallery page, and I'm so happy with them.
Photography milestone achieved! I finally took an indoor photo at night that didn't turn out dark (underexposed), grainy, or yellow! Woo hoo! In fact, this most recent batch of photos are my favorites of Prea so far because she is evenly lit in them. I think the even lighting flatters her face. Unfortunately one of my photography bulbs went crashing to the floor and shattered at the end of my shoot. I was given a couple of bulbs and housings for them, but one housing is a clip, and the other is a canister that doesn't have a stand. Neither of them have stands. They are older, incandescent lights. I'm so pleased with these photos that I would like to invest in a newer studio lighting kit. I'll need to do some research into that. I think spending the money on a new kit will be worth it to have stands for the lights. I'd like to look into stands whose height is adjustable and possibly bulbs that can be set to various strengths (like a dimmer). But maybe I don't need the dimmer and just need a better way to diffuse the light than I have now. I have a lot to learn before I make a purchase. Having good studio lighting will allow me to take photos whenever the mood strikes me, instead of being unable to take photos because it's winter and dark out when I get home from work. It will also allow me to take photos of the dioramas I plan to build, and make stories from those photos. The future is looking bright - and evenly lit. :) Today I picked up these gorgeous boots and books from the PO box. The boots are by Nymphodisiac Dolls, and the books are by BJD Attic. People in this hobby are so talented. I love these!
I’m so pleased with how Prea’s centaur outfit and wig turned out. I look forward to taking some good pictures of it (this is just a phone pic). I would really like to learn to take good photos indoors with studio lighting. The weather has been so dark and rainy that natural light has been hard to come by, especially by the time I get home from work. Maybe this winter I’ll get motivated to master studio photography. I’ll need to learn it someday because I want to be able to take good diorama photos. About what you see in the photoDesigned and made by me
