It seems my kryptonite in the hobby is Sparrow's Shop horns. Jasphene now has two pairs because forest magic and because I want to change her horns when the mood strikes me.
No restraint, no regrets. All the horns.

I wanted to have my Lucywen sleeping and elf heads painted after I had ordered them blank. In the past, I've always made doll-related transactions through a distributor like Denver Doll Emporium because it makes me feel more secure when ordering expensive dolls from overseas. That way, if something goes wrong, it isn't simply my word that it did; rather, it's the trusted word of the distributor. But to have these heads painted, I needed to work with Fairyland directly, and I was nervous about shipping overseas to Korea and communication with nonnative English speakers.
Thankfully Fairyland was a dream to work with. They told me when the heads arrived, confirmed my shipping address before sending back the heads, and sent me tracking information. Their communication was clear, polite, and professional. When the heads arrived, they were packed extremely well, in a large box with lots of bubble wrap and face protectors. I'm so grateful that Fairyland made this a pleasant and painless experience, and that they were willing to paint the heads that I had ordered blank. Sometimes frustrating situations work out for the best. I love happy accidents.
In this case, I ordered a new, higher quality pair of eyes for Felline, my Dollzone Big Dipper. Dollzone states that 10 mm glass eyes come with the doll, so I ordered 10 mm, number 14, Sweety, Enchanted Doll Eyes. But when the new eyes arrived, the irises were much smaller than the irises of the default eyes that came with the doll. I had never ordered 10 mm eyes before, and I had never ordered from Enchanted Doll Eyes. I didn't know if their eyes run small or if Dollzone's claim that Big Dipper comes with 10 mm eyes was a mistake and the default eyes were actually 12 mm. Thankfully someone in the community advised me. She said to take the default eyes out of Felline and compare the outside size of the eyes. If the outside size is the same for each pair, she said, they are both 10 mm eyes and it's the size of the irises that's different because urethane irises (made by companies like Enchanted Doll Eyes) tend to be smaller than glass ones (who knew?). But if the outside size of the eyes is different, then Dollzone's information is incorrect, and the default eyes are actually 12 mm. As you can see in the pictures, clearly the default glass eyes are 12 mm, and Dollzone's information is incorrect. The good news is that I like the 10 mm eyes much better. And I never would have known that if it wasn't for their mistake. I've got to fix one eyelash, but I think these eyes might stay for now. To me, they make Felline's face looked more balanced proportionally, and because of that and the higher quality of the eyes, she looks much more lifelike. I finally got some proper storage containers for doll stuff. I had been storing eyes, shoes, clothes, etc., in shoeboxes. Now those shoeboxes contain diorama items and crafting materials - so I still need more storage bins, but this is a good start. It's been really annoying having to dig through shoeboxes to find, for instance, a particular pair of eyes.
I like that the clothes drawers are shallow. I won't have to pile a bunch of clothes into fewer deep drawers and risk them getting wrinkled. Shallow drawers will also make things easier to find. However, I discovered that a drawer with a big ball gown in it can't hold much else, but I'm okay with that. Today my goal was to match this skirt from the Lucywen full set to Prea's color palette. I had to keep adding dye to the water because it wasn't taking at first, but it finally took to the tulle - but not to the stitching.
I think I can find a clever way to cover the stitching (ribbon? beading? tiny lace?) if I feel I need to. We'll see. It's an underskirt, so it won't show much; however, it will show somewhat in back because it's a high-low skirt. Maybe this will be an opportunity to embellish the part that is back behind her legs. I'll have to try it on her first to see if the stitching shows when she's wearing it. Today's doll haul from the PO box: chaise lounge, Tonner shoes, turned wooden dowels for furniture making, and a thankfully cheap outfit of questionable size (looks awfully big for being labeled MSD). I also got some Enchanted Doll eyes for Felline, my Dollzone Big Dipper, that I forgot to include. And to top it off, Fairyland wrote me that the sleeping and elf Lucywen heads I sent them are painted with the default faceups and ready to send back to me. They were so nice to do them for me after I had ordered them blank.
On a mobile device, click the image above to scroll through more images. My Prea has arrived, and I am in love with the Lucywen sculpt. She is my grail, regardless of the unicorn centaur body. I adore her face and could stare at her all day long. I'm so pleased that I was able to make a wig worthy of her. Her human wig, which I made from 5 different blondes, turned out looking as realistic as I had hoped, and soon I'm going to start making her fantasy wig of 8 different colors. I want it to be floor length, and I plan to make a matching tail for her centaur body. Welcome home, fire girl - bold and brazen one. Make your demands of me. The sky is the limit, and we will do such ambitious things together. Here's my video about Prea and her new wig: |
