I’m so pleased with how Prea’s centaur outfit and wig turned out. I look forward to taking some good pictures of it (this is just a phone pic). I would really like to learn to take good photos indoors with studio lighting. The weather has been so dark and rainy that natural light has been hard to come by, especially by the time I get home from work. Maybe this winter I’ll get motivated to master studio photography. I’ll need to learn it someday because I want to be able to take good diorama photos. About what you see in the photoDesigned and made by me

Doll Chateau said that they would send me instructions for stringing their Lillian unicorn but that it would take a few days because they would need to create the instructions. I had no idea that they would actually string the doll to create the instructions and take pictures (28 of them!) of the process from start to finish. I am very impressed. The instructions are really helpful to me, and I hope they help other owners of this doll.
It had to happen sometime. I disassembled Essentia. I didn't want the blue eye putty to stain the resin.
I can't believe DC actually used one loop of elastic to string this doll. My previous diagrams are correct. DC just used one loop to do it. They also used S hooks with tiny hooks on one side and clamped the tiny hooks down onto the elastic. I think the feet are the only place where the tiny hooks are necessary, so I may buy new S hooks for the rest of the body to save myself a lot of agony. It was not easy getting the elastic out of those tiny, clamped-down hooks. My fingers are still sore. Essentia, my Doll Chateau Lillian, is too loosely strung and won't stand, but I don't know if I can or should restring her the seemingly crazy way Doll Chateau did. These pictures show how I believe she came strung: I have a proposed restringing that I'm considering: I'm considering using the proposed method above but weaving string 3 under strings 1 and 2.
Another alternative would be to string each front leg independently to its corresponding wing and to string each back leg independently to the tail. I'm taking some time to consider my options, and I'm leaning toward whichever method will more easily allow me to use wire. I think my strategy will be to use elastic (string) to hold the doll parts together and wire to make them hold a proper position instead of trying to use elastic to do both things. I may even have to use the wire to work against the way the elastic wants to pull the parts of the doll. This doll is going to be a project to say the least. |
