Tonight I discovered that the wire stems of paper flowers are magnetized enough to hold a small group of flowers to Prea’s head.
I thought I was going to have to attach the flowers to magnets, but all I had to do was clip the stems at the bottom of each flower and glue the flowers to each other at their sides. Voila! A magnetic flower decoration! The wire remaining in the flowers will hold them to the head. This might be the easiest method ever to make small flower decorations for your dolls’ hair (if they have magnets in their heads, of course).

I just added a bunch of photos like these of Prea to the gallery page, and I'm so happy with them.
Photography milestone achieved! I finally took an indoor photo at night that didn't turn out dark (underexposed), grainy, or yellow! Woo hoo! In fact, this most recent batch of photos are my favorites of Prea so far because she is evenly lit in them. I think the even lighting flatters her face. Unfortunately one of my photography bulbs went crashing to the floor and shattered at the end of my shoot. I was given a couple of bulbs and housings for them, but one housing is a clip, and the other is a canister that doesn't have a stand. Neither of them have stands. They are older, incandescent lights. I'm so pleased with these photos that I would like to invest in a newer studio lighting kit. I'll need to do some research into that. I think spending the money on a new kit will be worth it to have stands for the lights. I'd like to look into stands whose height is adjustable and possibly bulbs that can be set to various strengths (like a dimmer). But maybe I don't need the dimmer and just need a better way to diffuse the light than I have now. I have a lot to learn before I make a purchase. Having good studio lighting will allow me to take photos whenever the mood strikes me, instead of being unable to take photos because it's winter and dark out when I get home from work. It will also allow me to take photos of the dioramas I plan to build, and make stories from those photos. The future is looking bright - and evenly lit. :) I’m so pleased with how Prea’s centaur outfit and wig turned out. I look forward to taking some good pictures of it (this is just a phone pic). I would really like to learn to take good photos indoors with studio lighting. The weather has been so dark and rainy that natural light has been hard to come by, especially by the time I get home from work. Maybe this winter I’ll get motivated to master studio photography. I’ll need to learn it someday because I want to be able to take good diorama photos. About what you see in the photoDesigned and made by me
Wig Sleeves Peach top under the beige corset (corset not by me) Horse neck collar Horse back blanket Made by others Unicorn horn: Sparrow's Shop Eyes: Oscardoll Corset: Raouken Necklace: a friend Doll and face painting: Fairyland Tonight I decided to play with my macro lens. It captures so much more detail. These photos I took make me want to take all of my closeup doll photos with my macro lens. I'm eager to get better with it.
Prea is so pleased with both of her Raouken corsets from @salem_sisterhood on Instagram, who also made the matching rose necklaces as a gift to me. Although the necklaces are a small touch, I think they do so much for this look. I just adore them.
I feel so fortunate. I never thought one of my dolls would own a Raoken corset because I tried many times to buy one before her shop closed but never managed to. It just goes to show that you never know. I ended up with two of them that match Prea's very specific colors exactly. These corsets are incredible. I didn't realize that they not only look like corsets but also act like them. When you tie them, they really do mold to the doll's body. It's unbelievable. On a mobile device, click the image above to scroll through more images. My Prea has arrived, and I am in love with the Lucywen sculpt. She is my grail, regardless of the unicorn centaur body. I adore her face and could stare at her all day long. I'm so pleased that I was able to make a wig worthy of her. Her human wig, which I made from 5 different blondes, turned out looking as realistic as I had hoped, and soon I'm going to start making her fantasy wig of 8 different colors. I want it to be floor length, and I plan to make a matching tail for her centaur body. Welcome home, fire girl - bold and brazen one. Make your demands of me. The sky is the limit, and we will do such ambitious things together. Here's my video about Prea and her new wig: Edited to add on July 29, 2017: Beware the scammer Hellcorgi (aka Kleincrew and Polina Bliss). It's been 4 months, and I haven't gotten this corset or the other item I ordered from her. In the meantime, her Etsy shop was shut down because of complaints from customers that they didn't receive their orders. I was told she was banned from Den of Angels a while ago.
She claims Etsy was unfair to her and that her items take a long time to ship and often get lost in the mail, but I don't believe that items I ordered two weeks apart, and that she said shipped separately, both got lost in the mail. I believe I was scammed and that she didn't send them. The status in my Etsy order history for both items is "not shipped." It seems that she does make beautiful items and that she sends out some orders but that she also takes orders she never intends to fulfill in order to make money fraudulently. I think she tells people to anticipate a long shipping wait so that they don't file a claim against her within PayPal's allotted time (45 days). Just be patient, she says, when she assures you that your order will eventually arrive. But then it never does. She has a calculated scam going. Many other members of the community have been scammed by her as well over the years. My impression from the community is that, if you buy from her, you are much more likely to not receive your items than you are to receive them. Sparrow's Shop, on the other hand, is wonderful to work with and highly recommended! I'm starting to assemble the look for Prea, my Fairyline Lucywen. Just look at the incredible detail in this custom corset that Hellcorgi on Etsy made for me. I'm so impressed. I can't believe how much detail is in two inches of doll corset. I also commissioned a horn for Prea from Sparrow's Shop on Etsy, as well as a pair of horns for Jasphene. Sparrow's work was one of the main things that made me enamored with the BJD hobby when I first discovered it. At that time, having dolls like the ones on her Etsy page and commissioning an artist like her seemed like something that people from another world did. Now I'm one of those people. It's a bit surreal. Back then I kept debating whether I wanted to join the hobby. I agonized over it because I'm a frugal person, and this hobby isn't cheap. But those days are long gone. Commissioning Sparrow's Shop made me realize how far I've come. More so than anything I've done thus far in the hobby, commissioning her made me realize I'm completely committed to the hobby. I feel honored that I've been able to commission such talented artists whose work I so admire. That is a part of the hobby that I didn't expect to love so much, but it makes sense. I love art, especially exquisitely detailed art. And the items I've commissioned for my dolls are no less than works of art. |
